Germany, late 1800’s. A young and hardworking husband and wife, Frederick and Johanna, are deeply in love with each other.
This young couple is blessed with four children, while two are lost in childbirth. Frederick and Johanna plan to emigrate to America to provide their children a better life.
After a Fall day working outside in unusual heat, 31 year old Frederick drops dead when he arrives home.
Encouraged by her parents after Frederick’s death, Johanna decides to travel to America by herself with her children. She plans to live near her brother in Minnesota, who had to flee when he committed a murder in his German hometown of Meseritz.
When Johanna arrives in Minnesota, she meets Reinhold, a widower who had lost several children to Diphtheria.
Sustained by their faith, Johanna and Reinhold find love again, both for themselves and for their children.
Based on the true story of the author’s great-grandparents.
